Putex is the student association for students of speech-language pathology (logopedics) within the University of Turku. Putex aims to advocate for their student’s as well as offer recreational activities and the chance to get to know different operators in the business. Putex has its own board of directors, which is chosen via a closed ballot during the annual autumn meeting. You can find more information on the current board under ”The Board of Putex”- section of this page.
The study of speech-language pathology prepares one for the occupation of a speech and language therapist. Here in the University of Turku, logopedics is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and operates under the Department of Psychology and Speech-Language Pathology. Studies here are made up of a variety of courses for our own major as well as obligatory minor studies in the field of medicine, phonetics, and psychology.
Courses for the major consist of theoretical-, methodological-, and clinical studies as well as clinical training.
Putex hosts a multitude of events for their members, ranging anywhere from chill nights in, to different forms of exercise, to sitzs. Our organization is also multifaceted when it comes to working side by side with professionals in the field. We arrange different types of introductions from companies and organizations as well as recruitment nights with different employers. The board aims to always take our members wishes and requests into consideration and account. We are committed to biding by the principles of a safer space in every single one of our events. We also have designated personell to handle cases and situations in which the principles are not upheld and we encourage our members to come forth with any such information.
Putex ry functions as the guardian for the students of speech-language therapy here in the University of Turku. During the annual autumn meeting, the new Board is chosen and along with it the Secretary for Academic Affairs. Their job and obligation is to attend meetings with the faculty and relay information any and all relevant information from the student body to the correct members of faculty. The Secretary for Academic Affairs can be reached via e-mail or envilope.
The faculty also arranges an event every semester with the sole purpose of hearing feedback from the students. The Secretary for Academic Affairs conducts an anonymous survey from the students beforehand. The results of the survey are then discussed by the Board and all faculty members.
Putex chooses a board of directors in their annual autumn meeting, in which any member can apply for a specific seat on the Board. In the case of multiple candidates, the member is elected via an enclosed ballot system. Each member of the board has one or two specific areas of responsibility. The board convenes approximately once a week to discuss affairs and upcoming events.

In all our events, we are committed to biding by Index ry’s principles of a safer space.
TYY’s definition of a safe space is as follows: “A safe space means that everyone has the liberty to be themselves, express themselves freely and participate in all activities. Harassment is absolutely forbidden in a safe space. Harassment is any action or behaviour that is degrading to someone, creates a hostile or unpleasant atmosphere or threatens a person or a group of people.”
Treat others as you would have them treat you. Note that each of us is an individual and sometimes very different e.g., with regard to personal limits. Do not generalise your preferences.
Do not make assumptions of another person’s identity, gender, sexual orientation, or other similar characteristic. You cannot know another person’s experiences, thoughts and life situation or their self-identification for them. However, we constantly make assumptions of other people, try and be aware of yours.
Do not generalise your experience to apply to others. It is not appropriate to define other people’s experience for them.
Be open and listen, respect another person as a human being beyond your own prejudices. Do not question or judge another person’s difference. Demand respect also for yourself.
Give space. Ensure that everyone is heard in a discussion and can participate.
Use language that is understandable also for people outside your own reference group.
Do not use aggressive addresses or expressions towards other people, not to those present or those absent.
Do not harass anyone verbally, by touching or staring. No means no. Stop or change your behaviour if another person so requests. What feels good to you may not feel good to others. Try to interpret the situation and the other party. The most secure method is to ask, listen and respect.
It is allowed to give proper and constructive feedback for improper treatment. If someone provides you feedback about your behaviour, listen to the person giving the feedback. Have an open approach towards the feedback you receive and aim at considering the feedback in the future.
In the case that you see or experience any activity that goes against these principles in one of Putex’s events, do not hesitate to be immediately in contact with one of the event organisers. Most of the time the organiser will be a member of Putex’s board or another official body. You can also be directly in contact with Putex’s equality support member.
